Emma Monkman

Hi everyone. My name is Emma Monkman and I am very fortunate to be the Operations Manager, and creator, of BYSF. I am a Town and Borough Councillor, School Governor and Environment Academic and Consultant. I have always loved outdoor activities, be that riding my bike, kayaking in the sea, or river, or walking my 2 Dalmatians through the beautiful Derbyshire countryside.

I joined Belper Meadows Tennis Club recently and am really enjoying this return to sport. I am passionate about volunteering and have been a Trustee for The British Red Cross, Rural Action Derbyshire, Lyme Green Settlement and Derby Refugee Solidarity.

My favourite thing is running the BYSF projects and I am delighted to be able to introduce you to my friends and Trustees who make BYSF the success it is.

David Higley

Hi, I’m Dave and a Trustee at BYS. I’ve lived in Belper since 2005 and have three kids who’ve all been raised here and we all love it! I work part-time for the Peak District National Park specialising in the security and accessibility of websites and digital channels, and sometimes making films. I also run my own business helping charities, small businesses and schools with their IT. Whilst my jobs are geeky, my passion is people and I try to do whatever I can to help everyone go everywhere to do everything they want, safely and responsibly.

During lockdown I developed a project called Belper Walks which uses videos to show people worried about getting lost, stuck or hurt on a walk to preview the route to see if it's right for them. This proved really popular with people with older dogs as it helped show what type of stiles and gates are on a walk.

As well as Belper Youth Sports I’m also on the committees of Belper Hammers volleyball club, Love Belper and am an Assistant Scout Leader.

Jon Quinn

Hi, I’m Jon and a Trustee. I’m a parent and big kid myself. I’ve called Belper home for 20 years and am involved in supporting community events and raising awareness and money around Belper Meadows Sports Clubs junior and senior teams. I occasionally don cricket whites when they’re short (of players, not the whites). I’m a keen walker with my 2 dogs, occasional cyclist, and avid sport watcher. I want to help BYS bring opportunities to all of our young to engage in and enjoy sports. Professionally I’ve been involved in supply chain and technology start-up businesses since leaving a career in big companies to try to help make a difference.
